Citrix XenApp like Windows RDS is used to provide virtual access of a machine desktop or different applications running on a system from a wide range of computer systems and mobile devices. Applications on central servers can be hosted using Citrix XenApp studio which enables their secure mobile access from the user devices remotely.

Cirtix Receiver is a component needs to be installed on the devices to access the published applications. Different versions of Citrix Receiver are there for specific devices and operating systems.

In this blog we are going to see how we can enable the access of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 through Citrix XenApp 7.5. If you have AOS and Citrix XenApp configured on different machines, you need to install Dynamics AX client component on Citrix XenApp machine.

After the installation of AX client component, we are ready to add it in Citrix application delivery groups by following the below simple steps.

Open Citrix studio, select a delivery group to add AX application. Go to ‘Applications’ tab and select ‘Create Application’.

In Create Application window, hit Next button until the ‘Applications’ tab appears with the list of installed applications in the system. Select Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

Click Next and then Finish. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 is now added in the list of published applications.

This file actually points ax32.exe file in Microsoft AX client\bin directory. If you want to add different AX client configuration other than default configuration, there are several steps you need to follow:

Open the configuration (.axc) file in notepad editor and make sure that following path is correct.

Move the configuration file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin

In Citrix studio, go to the list of published applications in a delivery group and right click on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 application. Select properties.

In ‘Location’ tab change the path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin\dax2012.axc to point .axc file (in our case dax2012.axc) instead of ax32.exe

Now that Dynamics AX is published, it is ready to access remotely from any user device in the network through Citrix Receiver. Open your internet browser and copy the URL of Citrix Storefront Receiver for Web. The URL can be found in:

There will be some options for downloading Citrix receiver or some add-ons. After downloading, the following Receiver page will be open asking for your credentials:

Enter your windows credentials here and click Log On.

Successful login gives you the following page. You can add the published applications by clicking the + button on middle left of the page. Click All Apps will give you the list of applications you can add and access. Select Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and it will drop in the center of the page.

Now you can open Dynamics AX on your device.
